MATINEE IDOL - Vinegar Syndrome Blu-ray Review

USA/1984
Directed By: Henri Pachard
Writer: David F. Friedman
Starring: Jesie St. James, John Leslie, Kay Parker
Color/88 Minutes/X
Region FREE
Release Date: July 25, 2017
Blu-ray/DVD

The Film
I know a porno comedy is going to be good when a shot of an erect dick floating in a pool is put to the "dun-dun" theme from Jaws. That's funny stuff. MATINEE IDOL is filled with funny stuff and is also a charming story of romance based around the two biggest stars working in the business, Lance Hardy and Linda Hand (John Leslie and Jesie St. James). Nothing sells like a Hardy Hand picture and nobody is more jealous of someone else than they are of each other.

MATINEE IDOL wastes no time bringing the sex appeal of the laughs and mixes them frequently with big success. From the beginning scene of Lance Hardy and Linda Hand having trouble finishing a blow job scene because of some personal bickering and then Linda ending the day's shoot by turning the blow job in to a crunch and munch (ouch!) and the pair swearing they'd never work with the other again. Each star sets out to find a new co-star, while the studio intends to replace them with younger, cheaper talent. Linda finds out her pool boy is a big fan and gets involved with him leading to a hilarious scene where she brings in a friend (Colleen Brennan) to make a plaster cast of his cock and continually suck him off to make sure it's a nice hard cast but when it gets too hard and breaks the cast they have to find a way to keep him hard but not get too crazy so they resort to fucking his toes. Toe fucking takes shrimping to a whole new level.

Along with the laughs there's a nice tale of love between the two stars who realize they're perfect for each other and let their guards down which makes MATINEE IDOL more than just silly sexcapades. Performances are quite good all around and we even get an appearance from Kay Parker (Taboo) which is always a welcomed sight. The sex is hot, the laughs are genuine and the story is just strong enough to make this something special.

The Audio & Video
Vinegar Syndrome delivers a beautiful transfer that MATINEE IDOL is completely deserving of. The anamorphic widescreen transfer is taken from a new 2K scan and restoration of the original camera negative which has a warm, natural grain structure. Colors are vivid and skin tones are true to life with no waxy look and feel. The audio features a DTS-HD Mono track that is free of any background noise, distortions or wobbles. The levels are stable with no peaks or dips in volume and the quality of the audio is very crisp with excellent clarity.

The Extras
Special features include a historical audio interview with writer/producer David F. Friedman and the original theatrical trailer.

The Bottom Line
MATINEE IDOL is a must own for adult film fans and first time viewers will be pleasantly surprised by the levels of entertainment on display here on top of just the sex.

A TOUCH OF GENIE - Vinegar Syndrome Blu-ray Review

USA/1974
Directed By: Joe Sarno
Written By: Joe Sarno
Starring: Tina Russell, Chris Jordan, Douglas Stone
Color/86 Minutes/Not Rated
Region FREE
Release Date: June 27, 2017
Blu-ray/DVD

The Film
Melvin (Douglas Stone) is a shy young man who runs a junk store and sneaks out during breaks to watch movies at the local smut theater. His luck turns around when he finds an old jar and rubs the inside of it which summons the sexy genie Amara who will grant him five wishes (it's inflation!) to fulfill his sexual desire. Melvin decides it would be fun to experience what it would be like to be some of his favorite porn stars like Harry Reems and Mr. 10 1/2 himself, Marc Stevens but who can enjoy themselves when their overbearing mother keeps showing up?

A TOUCH OF GENIE is a fucking blast, no pun intended. It has some great characters, Melvin and his ridiculous disguise he wears to the porno houses are ridiculous and his incredibly Jewish mother cracked me up. Amara is adorable as the genie and will make your heart melt and all of the sexy ladies involved such as Tina Russell and Lynn Stevens will get your blood pumping.

The fantasies all take place in a rather plainly decorated room and usually play out in similar fashion with some hot scenes in all sorts of positions playing out until Mevlin's mother comes bombarding in and he has to finish quickly to get the hell out of there. All the while Amara gives him every hint under the rainbow that she wants him but Melvin can't take a hint. Chris Jordan's portrayal of the genie is every boy's fantasy of what they wish Barbara Eden was on I Dream Of Jeannie. The only problem is that we never get the goods from her and there's nobody to blame but Melvin! He blows it for us (pun absolutely intended) and we're left with our cocks literally in our hand as the movie ends in a cutesy way that wraps up the story nicely and gives our characters a meaningful ending but what a fucking cock tease. There's no lack of sex appeal in A TOUCH OF GENIE but I feel a bit cheated. I forgive it though because I really do love this movie's mix of classic sexiness, light hearted tone and overall goofy nature.

The Audio & Video
Vinegar Syndrome gives A TOUCH OF GENIE a home on Blu-ray with a new 2K scan and restoration from the original 35mm camera negative and I have no complaints. The image is sharp and crisp with high levels of detail and natural healthy skin tones that show no signs of waxiness from excessive DNR. The DTS-HD Mono audio is clear as can be with no background noise or damage.

The Extras
Special features include interviews with actor Eric Edwards and Joe Sarno biographer Michael Bowen along with the original trailer. Reversible artwork is also included.

The Bottom Line
A TOUCH OF GENIE is funny, sexy and cute as hell. It's a sexy romp filled with laughs and is a feel good porno if ever there was one. Highly recommended!

THAT'S OUTRAGEOUS - Vinegar Syndrome DVD Review

USA/1983
Directed By: Fred Lincoln
Written By: Figaro Beulah Vincinzo, Randall Edwards, Fred Lincoln
Starring: Jamie Gillis, France Lomay, Natasha
Color/86 Minutes/X
Region FREE
Release Date: May 30, 2017

The Film
Jamie Gillis stars as a fashion photographer living and working in Paris where he has relationships going on with a pair of sisters under the names of Paul and Philippe unbeknownst to the sisters that they are one and the same. Unsurprisingly his main goal is to get the sisters into bed at the same time, the ultimate menage a trois.

THAT'S OUTRAGEOUS is a X-rated take on comedic romance movies starring a man gallivanting around the city having flings with various women while blowing his chance with his one true love, or two true loves in this case. Jamie Gillis is no stranger to acting in traditional films and shows it here with a solid performance when he's not busy putting the moves to both sisters. He also has one of the most self loathing sex fantasies I've ever seen in a film and it is hilarious in the grand scheme of the film and on top of that adds a level of genuine love and emotion that completely elevates the story above a lustful level and shows Gillis' character in a more positive light.

Director Fred Lincoln gives a grandiose feeling with much of the film being shot within Paris and a few scenes at the end in New York. The film looks good and features solid performances including the sexy sisters played by France Lomay and Natasha who help end the film on a bang with a set up for Paul in New York City that comes crashing through the door like an unwelcome guest but by the end of the party ends up being the life of the party. That ending scene is so out of left field but it is a stupidly silly surprise that sums up how cutely romantic this film is at its core beyond the numerous sex scenes. It doesn't take long to realize THAT'S OUTRAGEOUS has soul and spirit. The catchy original theme song and opening credits make you realize the personality this movie has immediately. The rest of the music is great as well with the passionate wails of the electric guitar being rivaled only by the passionate moans of the sisters in their romps with Jamie Gillis' split character.

I love THAT'S OUTRAGEOUS from start to finish. It's a transatlantic X-rated romp filled with almost as many laughs as money shots.

And there's a slow motion money shot so how could you not want to see it?

The Audio & Video
THAT'S OUTRAGEOUS has been given a new 2K scan and restoration from the original 35mm camera negative courtesy of Vinegar Syndrome and it looks very nice for a standard DVD release. The picture is sharp including natural but vivid colors and fleshy, healthy skin tones. Detail is good and there's minimal imperfections in the 16x9 anamorphic widescreen transfer. The English audio is handled with a Dolby Digital mono mix which is solid. There's no crackling, popping or other annoying imperfections present and the dialogue and score are mixed nicely.

The Extras
A 12 minute interview with supporting actor John Mozzer is the lone extra but it's a welcomed addition to the feature.

The Bottom Line
Much of the attention to this month's Vinegar Syndrome releases is being paid to Malibu High and The Hearse and for good reason but it would be a crime to overlook THAT'S OUTRAGEOUS because it is wildly entertaining and a fine release.

TABOO 2 and TABOO 3 Double Feature (Blu-ray Review) - Vinegar Syndrome

USA/1982, 1984
Directed By: Kirdy Stevens
Written By: Helene Terrie
Starring: Kay Parker, Dorothy LeMay, Jerry Butler
Color/191 Minutes/X
Region FREE
Release Date: November 29, 2016
Blu-ray/DVD

The Films
The TABOO films are classic vintage American smut for a reason. They're well made, they're sexy as hell and they focus on characters we can relate to. Kay Parker starred as a sexually frustrated mother lusting after her college bound son in the original film which culminated in a wildly dreamy and satisfying scene. It was a fantastic film but there were so many more twists and turns a series based in incestuous fetish could take and so much more money to make that there had to be sequels.

TABOO 2 features Junior, a friend of Paul from the original film who has learned of his relationship with his mother and decides he is going to act out on his own lust for his younger sister. TABOO 2 is a lot more straight forward and even exploitative in that Junior damn near throws himself on top of his sister while groping, grabbing and rubbing her against her will. It all feels uncomfortable but eventually Sherry gives in to her brother's advances and can't get enough despite her parents finding out the hard way. And while they're fucking each other their lust spreads to their respective parents as Junior wants his mother, Sherry chases after her disapproving father who is disgusted and appalled by the entire situation.

TABOO 3 brings Kay Parker as Barbara back into a starring role but this time she is the object of her other son Jimmy's lust as he is jealous of his brother Paul's relationship with their mother. While that's going on her friend Joyce has totally accepted her sexual relationship with her own son and loves it and gives her the same advice when Barbara comes to her for help after she begins to crave Jimmy.

TABOO 2 and 3 may not have the signature artistic scene that the first film does, but it is dripping with everything else that the original film has. These films are sexy and kinky, they have solid scripts and competent acting to carry out believable films and not just fucking for the sake of fucking. The soundtracks are a bit funky and groovy and the direction from Kirdy Stevens shows more skill than just pointing the camera at a thrusting pelvis and calling it a day.

Despite Kay Parker playing a background role in TABOO 2 it may be my favorite of the three as it brings the fetish to new heights incorporating an entire family and brings a bit of humor in as well. Part three is held back by an unnecessary rock band subplot that does allow for more sex scenes but the entire angle doesn't do much to further the main theme of the series and that's the real reason anyone interested in the TABOO series takes the time to watch them. I can't say too much bad about these films though, even at their lowest point I still massively enjoy them and fully understand why they're held in such high regard for 80s smut.

The Audio & Video
Keeping their tracking record of beautifully preserving some of the finest vintage adult films alive and well, Vinegar Syndrome has once again released Blu-ray that is nothing less than stellar. The films have been given a new 2K scan and restoration from 35mm vault elements and look excellent. There is some minor spotting and the occasional age related line but that doesn't detract from the sharp, highly detailed and naturally colored image quality. Skin tones have a lush quality with no waxiness. The English DTS-HD Mono Master Audio mix is crisp and very well mixed. The soundtrack and the dialogue are complimentary and there's virtually no signs of damage or background noise.

The Extras
-Video interview with actor Blake Palmer
-Original theatrical trailer for TABOO 2
-Kay Parker's personal TABOO 3 script

The Bottom Line
These sequels take the incest kink ball that the first film introduced in 1980 and run with it, ramping up the sex factor exponentially. Maybe they're not the iconic film that the original is but they're a lot of sexy fun and shouldn't be ignored by fans of the first.

TABOO (Blu-ray Review) - Vinegar Syndrome

USA/1980
Directed By: Kirdy Stevens
Written By: Helene Terrie
Starring: Kay Parker, Mike Ranger, Juliet Anderson
Color/86 Minutes/X
Region FREE
Release Date: August 30, 2016
Blu-ray/DVD

The Film
Barbara's husband has left her, blaming her frigidity and lack of passion for destroying their love life and marriage. Now without an income Barbara has to find a job while taking care of their son who is getting ready for college which is another added expense. Stressed to the max, Barbara turns to her free swinging friend Gina who sets her up with the local swinger scene but Barbara's sexual tension is growing hot and heavy with her own son instead.

TABOO is one of the most notable adult films of the era as it is very well made featuring great performances for a porno flick and really solid writing. The screenplay from Helene Terrie is great, with a few truly memorable and wonderfully staged scenes including one of the most wonderfully photographed orgy scene of all time and a dreamlike incestuous encounter that feels quite surreal. Kay Parker handles her range of encounters and emotions with grace, showing true acting ability. It's no wonder that she would rocket to stardom in the adult world soon after TABOO was released. Her incredible body certainly didn't hurt either.

This film's main draw is how shamelessly it deals with kink and, as the title so plainly suggests, taboo subjects. And there ain't nothing wrong with that. Everybody has their own fetishes and incest is certainly one of the biggies. TABOO tackles that fetish and is so sexy that the viewer won't be feeling any guilt while enjoying this film. TABOO can still be called shocking to this day but you can't call it shocking for the sake of shock value. TABOO is a stylish movie, with heaping helpings of sex that will continue to be considered a classic piece of adult cinema for years to come as not only a piece of kinky smut but a look at the harsh reality of being a single mother... who happens to fuck her son.

The Audio & Video
As much as I love Vinegar Syndrome's horror and exploitation output, their real bread and butter is their vintage X-rated and nobody does it better so it's no surprise that their brand new 2K scan of TABOO looks incredible. The amount of detail is exceptional from clothing and surface texture to strands of hair. Colors are strong and vibrant but in no way come across as artificial. The entire anamorphic widescreen transfer has a warm, film look with a nice grain structure that will leave you wondering if you're watching this in an old porno house. The audio is no different as it is handled with a DTS-HD mono track that gets the dialogue and funky bass driven soundtrack across with crispness and crystal clarity.

The Extras
Vinegar Syndrome has this release absolutely stacked with commentaries! There's two new commentary tracks, one with Kay Parker and one with writer/producer Helene Terrie. There's also two archival commentary tracks which feature Kay Parker on her own and director Kirdy Stevens and Helene Terrie together. There's also an archival video interview with Kay Parker, a promotional image gallery and reversible artwork.

The Bottom Line
The film's tagline is "The ultimate sin!", the real ultimate sin would be considering yourself a fan of porno flicks and skipping this Blu-ray.

HARLOT / TIJUANA BLUE - Vinegar Syndrome (DVD Review)

USA/1970, 1971
Directed By: Howard Ziehm
Written By: Howard Ziehm, Frank Cozart
Starring: Fran Spector, Marsha Bishop, Bill Pruner
Color/156 Minutes/X
Region FREE
Release Date: May 31, 2016

The Films
This double feature fro director Howard Ziehm is an interesting pair of early 70s smut that takes us to opposite extremes of the early days of porn. HARLOT plays out in an almost episodic manner, following the sexual exploits of best friends Mary and Melody as Melody plays catch up to her far more sexually open friend. We see each adventure get a little crazier than the last, including a scene where a man carries her around in powerbomb position (non pro wrestling fans should Google what a powerbomb is) while eating her out. I can't say in good faith that I'd never thought about that but seeing it played out was as ridiculous as I had pictured.

TIJUANA BLUE adds a rougher and dirtier element to the double feature, as we follow a man named Jamie on his quest to complete a drug run to earn money to pay for an abortion for his girlfriend but gets caught up in much seedier and violent things in the underbellies of Tijuana and Los Angeles. There's some serious hot and heavy action going on mixed with a competent story that adds a certain grit to the sticky feeling beneath your shoes. It's a mix of everything exploitation films can offer.

The Audio & Video
Vinegar Syndrome has restored and scanned both films in 2K from original 16mm vault elements. They're still rough around the edges at times with speckling and scratches but both films have a nice quality overall that is fitting for porn from the era. I can't say the image is pristine or that it shines but I'm more than happy with how things look in the 1.33:1 full frame transfer. The Dolby Digital English mono audio tracks sound fine as well despite some slight instances of background noise. Otherwise the tracks are perfectly listenable and mixed well.

The Extras
Director Howard Ziehm provides audio commentary for both films.

The Bottom Line
This entry into Vinegar Syndrome's Peekarama Collection is an unassuming double feature that gives us a wide range of sexy fun and entertainment from the light hearted to downright dirty and mean. There's something for every fan of vintage X rated fare.

TRASHY LADY - Vinegar Syndrome (Blu-ray Review)

USA/1985
Directed By: Steve Scott
Written By: Steve Scott, Will Kelly
Starring: Ginger Lynn, Harry Reems, Amber Lynn
Color/85 Minutes/X
Region FREE
Release Date:
Blu-ray/DVD

The Film
Dutch Siegel is a gangster who just lost his lady and with the big gangster's convention coming up he needs to find a new one to have by his side. The new girl working at the speakeasy immediately catches his eye and he decides that young Katherine will be his new woman. The only problem being that she's an innocent small town girl and one of the city's top gangsters can't be seen with a sweet girl so he hands her over to Rita who is the main squeeze of jailed gangster Louie to roughen up Katherine and teach her how to act like a tough broad.

TRASHY LADY is a period piece taking place during the height of gangster culture and prohibition, the 1920s. Never for a second did I question that this film is being made on sets or a soundstage. Director Steve Scott really brings the audience into the time period with solid production value and good screenplay. It's not every smut film that I make mention of a good screenplay but this one deserves mention. The cast also deserves mention because they're pretty good. Yes, there is some hammy moments and overacting but the acting is head's and shoulders above the average porno. Ginger Lynn is adorable as the small town girl and becomes downright sexy as she goes through the lessons taught to her. Harry Reems and his legendary mustache is more likable than I would expect. The rest of the cast including Amber Lynn, Herschel Savage and Bunny Bleu are all good as well.

Once the action starts it keeps coming fast and furious with everything from sex with the paper boy to lesbian action with a hotel maid and Rita getting it on in Jail. And that my dear viewer is of course the most important thing here. I deeply appreciate the costume work, the sets that don't look as cheap as they probably should and that Steve Scott's direction is great (good enough to earn him a nomination for the XRCO awards, one of 6 nominations for TRASHY LADY) but without some hot and heavy action, and plenty of it, TRASHY LADY wouldn't be nearly as special. And it's special. Ginger Lynn, as I said, is fucking gorgeous, easily one of the sexiest ladies in adult film history and her co-stars in this film are no slouches either. This is one hell of a sexy flick and plenty entertaining on top of that.

The Audio & Video
Vintage porn is not supposed to look this good. It's supposed to be grainy and damaged, full of scratches and debris showing its rough history and age. It should give you that sticky, grimy feeling, right? It's not supposed to have a sharp look and a clean transfer. It shouldn't have high levels of detail and a natural and vivid color palette. That is unless Vinegar Syndrome has something to say about it with a new 2K scan from the original 35mm camera negative. TRASHY LADY looks stunning. And the DTS-HD Master Audio mono mix sounds great - It's crisp and crystal clear, not muddy and without any hissing or crackling. There's no background noise or other distortions. What a world we live in when 30 year old porn can look and sound this good.

The Extras
The package of extras put together for this release may not be the most plentiful but there's some landmark stuff in here!

-The First Ever Audio Commentary by Director of Photography Tom Howard moderated by filmmaker David McCabe
-Audio Commentary by co-star Herschel Savage and XRCO co-founder Bill Margold
-Bonus Steve Scott Feature Film - COMING WEST (1971)
-Reversible Artwork

The Bottom Line
Vinegar Syndrome's Blu-ray release of TRASHY LADY is nothing but pure fucking class. Highly recommended!

ALL NIGHT AT THE PO-NO (Vinegar Syndrome) - DVD Review

USA/Various Years
Color/Over 12 Hours/X
Region FREE
Release Date: April 26, 2016
3 DVD Set

The Films
ALL NIGHT AT THE PO-NO features a dozen hour long stag reels and a pair of shorts for good measure. Everything from the light hearted to the rough and tumble is featured here and you'll laugh, cringe, possibly cry and definitely enjoy. Just don't get caught using your wee-wee like Pee-Wee. Here's a rundown on the films...

1. Girl Acrobatics- This is probably the first time you've seen a man get head while doing a hand stand... that's pretty awesome. He also gets mad that the girl has a dildo and shows her she doesn't need it next to the fire. Amen brother.

2. Homer The Late Comer - A film editor that looks like a cross between Joe Spinell and Booger from Revenge Of The Nerds lives with his momma and dreams of a better sex life. Luckily for him he gets some action on a nasty green couch with a girl that has a dirty butthole. She was attractive before that. This is serious smut comedy.

3. Erotic Point Of View - Ever see a woman yodel into a dildo? You will here. Plus see possibly the first ever point of view experiment in porn with a blind character. It's not only interesting, it's historic!

4. Porno Mondo - A "sex documentary" on the industry filled with plenty of action and some entertaining interview clips. Watch this one for the awesome XXX theater and bookstore location footage from a bygone era.

5. Sex Before Marriage - A man's wedding day starts off on the wrong foot when his car breaks down but things start looking up when he fucks his way across town with everyone except his bride to be!

6. Orgy In The Woods - The second short film is exactly what you'd expect judging from the title. Sometimes judging a book by its cover is okay.

7. The Playboys - It must be nice having a bevy of beautiful women knocking on your door ready to fuck, right? Well that's the life of a playboy! Be on the look out for a young John Holmes who steals the girls away after they see his giant member and a special appearance by the boom mic operator in the mirror.

8. Suckula - A news reporter shows us footage of Dracula's sexual rampage through Hollywood as he searches for blood in all the wrong places! Everybody gets in on the action in this one.

9. The Big Snatch - A violent gang of women take revenge after one of their members is assaulted and robbed after a quickie. Their brand of revenge involves making sure they get off before getting nasty. Sex, heroin and murder... what else do you need?

10. The Erotic Adventures Of Hercules - No, not the Simpsons episode! This could have been a legendary piece of porn history in a Peplum film setting but instead it's cheap. Too cheap and is just a passable use of xxx time.

11. Shot On Location - The cast and crew of a new adult film get it on while on set, at home and everywhere in between. Then a wife comes home giving an entirely different meaning to the title.

12. The Touch - This porn infused crime film about drug trafficking is almost an actual movie... huh, how about that.

13. Carnal-Go-Round - You'll see how Alice The Hooker loves her job in a series of vignettes where she sucks and fucks for money and even brings a new girl into the fold.

14. All American Hustler - Talk about going home from a 12+ hour porno marathon on a bleak note...  We spend the last few days of a LA prostitute and her heroin addicted friend. Lots of sex, and just as much addiction. It's not as fun as porn probably should be.

The Audio & Video
Vinegar Syndrome has saved these loops from the damage and decay of time as each of these films are at least 40 years old. The picture quality ranges from scratched, spotty and rough to fairly decent but all of them feature some short of damage. I'm not complaining though as they all are perfectly enjoyable and their imperfections only add to their seediness and the dirty feeling you've come to love. While they haven't gone through extensive restoration they've been newly scanned from the original 16mm negatives. Like the picture the audio quality is high and low but usually it's better than not. There's some background noise and crackling and popping but it's steady, clear enough and has a quality mix.

The Extras
You just watched over 12 hours of vintage XXX stag loops... do you really need extras? Wash your hands and get some sleep!

The Bottom Line
Didn't you hear me? Wash your hands and get to bed! Oh, you don't own this yet? Well what are you waiting for? This is a must own for vintage porno collectors.

BLUE ICE - VINEGAR SYNDROME (Blu-Ray Review)

USA/1985
Directed By: Phillip Marshak
Written By: Mark Weiss, Joe Repaso
Starring: Herschel Savage, Jacqueline Lorians, Jamie Gillis
Color/85 Minutes/X
Region FREE
Release Date: March
Blu-ray/DVD

The Film
What do you get when a handsome man is on the hunt for an old relic that potentially holds the key to eternal life and has to beat the Nazis to the chase? No it's not Indiana Jones, it's BLUE ICE! A private eye from San Francisco (Herschel Savage) is hired by a wealthy man known only as Big Man (Jamie Gillis) to retrieve an ancient book that holds the power to eternal life. Unbeknownst to him is that the Nazis are also after the book and have a secret serum to turn anyone into an insatiable nymphomaniac.

I love this movie. It's equally funny and endearing as it is seedy and immoral. With everything from rape to Ron Jeremy doing Kung-fu and gloved blowjobs to group sex and shootouts and stock Nazi footage, BLUE ICE has a little bit of something different around each corner. And it's well made to boot. The cast, lead by Savage but also including adult film mainstays Jamie Gillis, Ron Jeremy and  Bill Margold are all solid. There's even a monologue early on in the film by Reggie Nalder that is edited with stock footage of Hitler and the Nazis that is exceptional.

Oh and the women are gorgeous. Yeah, it's a porno so it's important to note. They're also, in many cases, tough as nails and know how to get what they want. The sets and locations are rather lavish as well, especially Big Man's home and the Nazi hideout. The film culminates in an extremely atmospheric and gorgeously lit and photographed scene of the book finally being opened in a scene that instantly reminded me of the type of atmosphere Lucio Fulci created in films such as City Of The Living Dead complete with beautifully eery music.

BLUE ICE is as campy as it is sexy. At times it gets a little rough and at times it makes you laugh. It has a little bit of everything and sometimes that isn't always a good thing but BLUE ICE comes together as one of the most interesting viewing experiences I've had lately and I love it.

The Audio & Video
Vinegar Syndrome touched this disc so it turned to gold like everything they touch. Really, the anamorphic widescreen transfer has a warm natural film-like look with a nice grain structure while keeping digital noise to a minimum. Colors are vibrant and flesh tones are peachy and natural with no waxiness. Black levels are deep and handled well. The detail level is high in everything from close up facial details to wood grains and fabrics. The DTS-HD Master Audio mono mix isn't going to blow you away with an insane surround mix but it's going to deliver a crisp, clear and pretty fucking stellar sound quality. Dialogue and score compliment each other while the clarity never comes into question with distortions or background noise.

The Extras
Aside from reversible cover art the Blu-ray features an audio commentary track with star Herschel Savage and co-star Bill Margold. The track is lively and genuinely funny as the duo relives their days on the set of the picture giving insightful information and actors and locations along with endless yelling about how awesome the actress' tits are and how hot they were. It's like they're watching a porno for the first time. It's fantastic.

The Bottom Line
I'm giving BLUE ICE the "essential viewing" recommendation for any of my readers who are fans of the adult film stuff I cover. So chances are, if you're reading this you should definitely check out BLUE ICE.

EROTIC ADVENTURE OF CANDY / CANDY GOES TO HOLLYWOOD (Blu-ray Review) - Vinegar Syndrome

Vinegar Syndrome gives us two re-releases this month, with this double feature of the CANDY film by Gail Palmer being the first and is an upgrade to Blu-ray over the previous Peekarama Collection DVD released back in July of 2014. This is a welcomed upgrade of an already attractive that really could (and did) stand on its own two feet.

The Blu-ray carries over all of the same content as the DVD which we reviewed upon its release. You can see that review HERE. Instead of writing all the same things over again I will save you some time by saying the picture is sharper, with more overall depth but especially in details such as clothing and surface textures. The skin tones look gorgeous with a natural fleshiness that only a well done Blu-ray transfer can convey. The upgrade from an already well done DVD is immediately and constantly noticeable.

The Blu-ray of THE EROTIC ADVENTURES OF CANDY and CANDY GOES TO HOLLYWOOD  is worth the upgrade if you already have the DVD and certainly worth a first time purchase if you haven't picked up the previous DVD and is available HERE

EROTIC ADVENTURES OF CANDY / CANDY GOES TO HOLLYWOOD (Blu-ray Review) - Vinegar Syndrome

Vinegar Syndrome gives us two re-releases this month, this double feature of the CANDY films by Gail Palmer being an upgrade to Blu-ray over the previous Peekarama Collection DVD released back in July of 2014. This is a welcomed upgrade over an already attractive version that really could (and did) stand on its own two feet.

This Blu-ray carries over all of the same content as the DVD which was reviewed upon its release. You can see that review HERE. Instead of writing all the same things over again I will save you time by saying the picture is sharper, with more overall depth but especially in details such as clothing and surface textures. The skin tones look gorgeous with a natural fleshiness that only a well done Blu-ray transfer can really convey. The upgrade from an already well done DVD is immediately and constantly noticeable.

The Blu-ray of EROTIC ADVENTURES OF CANDY and CANDY GOES TO HOLLYWOOD is worth an upgrade if you already have the DVD and certainly worth a first time purchase if you haven't picked up the previous DVD.

Note: There's a single frame digital glitch at the end of the first film, just before the credits which is the result of a manufacturing error. This could easily be overlooked but Vinegar Syndrome has already begun repressing corrected discs and is setting up a replacement program for those that have already purchased the disc. You can get in contact with them on their Facebook page for more information.
